Grandma spends all summer canning the bounty of her garden. She cans beans, peas, tomatoes, and corn, but it's her preserves that she is most proud. There's blackberry, blueberry, boysenberry, strawberry, raspberry, and her famous cranberry. Early Christmas morning, she bundles up and trudges out into the chilly December air, heading to the smokehouse. Grandma smiles. She loves when the house is filled with family. Two cats wish her good morning with a chorus of meows as she opens the door to the root cellar. "Good mornin," she says as she heads down toe stairs. Grandma is looking for a jar of her special cranberry preserves that she saves just for the holidays. There is nothing better than a hot buttermilk biscuit dripping with a spoonful. She finds it and takes a second to reflect on her good fortune. As she wipes the dust from the jar, Grandma smiles again.
