With the dark clouds of the 1980s farm economy still forming overhead, IH continued forward with tractor development. The large articulating four-wheel-drive tractors IH dealers sold were built by Steiger Tractor of Fargo, N.D. IH had contracted with Steiger to build large-frame, four-wheel-drive tractors using IH-supplied engines and drivetrains fitted into modified Steiger-built frames and cabs, starting in 1973 with the IH 4366 tractor.
